WeidmĂĽller Group will increase its U.S. engineering and production footprint with the help of state grant money for workforce development

Germany-based WeidmĂĽller Group will create more than 100 new jobs in Richmond, Virginia, where the company has operated in Chesterfield County for more than 50 years. WeidmĂĽller will increase its engineering and production footprint in the U.S. by 24,000 sq ft, supporting growing North American customers and strengthening the supply chain.

The $16.4 million investment was part of Weidmüller’s Made in America commitment, and helped by the Virginia Economic Development Partnership (VEDP), which worked with the county to secure the project for Virginia and a $488,450 grant from the state’s Opportunity Fund. The company is eligible to receive benefits from the Port of Virginia Economic and Infrastructure Development Zone Grant Program.

WeidmĂĽller Group provides industrial connectivity products and solutions that connect and automate electrical power and signaling for components, machines and installations.

“We applaud Weidmüller Group’s decision to expand its manufacturing center in Chesterfield County and continue to capitalize on the growing access to global markets offered by The Port of Virginia,” said Stephen A. Edwards, CEO and executive director of the Virginia Port Authority. “This company’s products help support the expanding electric vehicle market, so logistics and supply chain consistency are critical to a successful operation. The investments we’re making in our terminals will help to ensure that Weidmüller can expand the international movement of its products without concern. We welcome Weidmüller and are looking forward to supporting its growth.”

The Virginia Talent Accelerator Program, a workforce initiative created by VEDP with the Virginia Community College System and other higher education partners, will support Weidmüller’s job creation with funding support from the governor’s administration and the Virginia General Assembly. Launched in 2019, the program accelerates new facility start-ups by delivering recruitment and training services that are fully customized to a company’s unique products, processes, equipment, standards and culture. All program services are provided at no cost to qualified new and expanding companies as an incentive for job creation.
