The more things change, the more you trust what got you where you are. Familiar hardware and software solutions give you the confidence to innovate and build. This is even more clear as we explore the winners of the Control Design 2016 Readers' Choice Awards.

Winners from last year's Readers’ Choice Awards were again elected to the top spots in 46 categories. That’s a lot of familiar automation.

This year, we invited more than 22,000 individuals who indicated they have buying authority or influence at their organizations to access our confidential ballot. The voting is unaided, which means we include no list of suppliers for guidance or assistance; it’s a ballot of the people, by the people and for the people.

We ask each participant to indicate the first, second and third preference in more than 60 product categories, which we’ve grouped as Control, Hardware, Motion, Networking, Safety, Sensing and Software. We do not knowingly count the votes of any suppliers in our tabulations.

Once again, Rockwell Automation was the go-to brand for most products, finishing first in 20 categories. Other multiple winners included Advantech (2), Cisco (4), Cognex (2), Emerson (3), Fanuc (2), HMS Industrial Networks (2), Parker Hannifin (2), Pepperl+Fuchs (2), Schneider Electric (2) and SMC (2).
