The CAN in Automation (CiA) association elected its board of directors, as well as the members of the CiA Business Committee and the CiA Technical Committee.
Established in 1992, CiA has more than 750 members and is the international users’ and manufacturers’ group for controller area network, internationally standardized in the ISO 11898 series (Figure 1). A controller area network (CAN) bus is a high-integrity serial bus system for networking intelligent devices. CAN busses and devices are components in automotive and industrial systems. CiA members develop and publish CiA specifications, which cover all open systems interconnection (OSI) layers and applications in different domains.
Magnus Hell, system engineer in vehicle networking at Infineon, was elected as CiA technical director. Christian Schlegel, senior consultant at CHS Consulting, was re-elected as CiA business director, and Holger Zeltwanger is furthermore the CiA managing director.
CiA’s CAN-related specifications include the CAN XL ecosystem with protocol specifications, implementation guidelines, and network design recommendations. In the past year, more than 2 billion CAN nodes have been installed.
The elected members of the CiA Business Committee are Emotas, ESD, HMS, MicroControl and Vector. The CiA Technical Committee comprises Bosch, Emotas, ESD, MicroControl and Vector.
