AMT Elects New Board, Officers

Meeting Saturday in Chandler, Ariz., the Association for Manufacturing Technology (AMT) elected Eugene R. Haffely Jr. as its 2011-2012 chairman. He takes over the helm immediately from Daniel D. Janka.

Haffely, who served as first vice chairman on AMT’s 2009-2010 board, is general manager at ATW Automation’s Dayton, Ohio, facility. He previously served as CEO—Assembly Systems Group of Assembly & Test Worldwide. He was a co-founder of Advanced Assembly Automation (AAA), and served as vice president of operations until 1996. He then served as president of Hansford Manufacturing, a division of DT Industries, and as corporate vice president of operations for DT Industries before returning to AAA as president.

“It is exciting to be assuming the role of AMT chairman in this critical time of economic recovery for manufacturers,” Haffely says. “As we are seeing significant portions of AMT’s Manufacturing Mandate being adopted and implemented by government and the private sector, we expect to see the support generated for manufacturing in the U.S. increase. This, coupled with the introduction of new business intelligence tools for the manufacturing technology industry, will make the coming year productive and inspiring.”

Janka, president of MAG Global in Hebron, Ky., will now serve the association as an ex-officio member of its board of directors, along with Ronald F. Schildge, president of Eitel Presses, Orwigsburg, Pa. 

The association, which represents more than 400 U.S. manufacturers of machine tools, manufacturing machinery and related products, elected other new officers and directors as well. First vice chairman for the coming year will be Timothy B. Dining, president and CEO for Greenerd Press & Machine in Nashua, N.H. Elected second vice chairman and treasurer is R. Stephen Flynn, president of Optical Gaging Products, Rochester, N.Y. Kim W. Beck, president and CEO of Automatic Feed, Napoleon, Ohio, will continue to serve as secretary.

Flynn will also return to the association’s board of directors for a three-year term, along with Michael Powell, president of Master WorkHolding in Morganton, N.C. Newly elected to the board are Larry G. Schwartz, president and COO, Okuma America, Charlotte, N.C.; and Richard L. Simons, president and CEO, Hardinge, Elmira, N.Y.
