Kowal Scholarship open to applicants

The deadline to apply for the John Kowal Memorial Scholarship is March 31. The award was established by the Organization for Machine Automation and Control (OMAC) in memory of one of OMAC’s founding members, John A. Kowal, to encourage and support the growth of careers in automation.

The educational scholarship memorializes John Kowal and his contributions to the field he served for more than 20 years. An early evangelizer of the potential for servo control, Kowal passed away in July 2020.  The mission of this scholarship is to assist students who show superior interest in the automation and packaging industry and plan on that as a course of study in their college curriculum.

As one of the most influential figures and vital contributors to the automation and packaging industries, Kowal’s legacy lives on through this scholarship.

The applicant must be a third-or fourth-year student majoring in electrical engineering/automation, or related areas and demonstrating commitment to excellence in the industry.

The applicant will need to submit:

  • transcript showing academic achievement with a GPA 3.0 or higher

  • a short essay demonstrating interest in packaging automation industry

  • at least one letter of recommendation from faculty/professor

  • resume outlining academic and work experience, with extra-curricular involvement as a plus.

A $5,000 check will be issued to the award recipient and the school and sent to the school directly.
