Genesis Packaging Technologies standardized its servo motor and drive supplier, streamlining spare parts management and reducing operational complexity

Controls engineers building machinery for factories and plants can glean significant insights from Genesis Packaging Technologies’ shift from customized automation systems to standardized platforms.

This transition, Automation World reported, aligns with broader industry trends favoring standardization to improve scalability, ease maintenance and enable seamless integration with third-party systems.

By adopting Mitsubishi Electric Automation’s EtherNet/IP MR-J5 servo drives and amplifiers for its Vera residual seal force tester, Genesis reduced lead times from 12 weeks to 6 and increased annual output from 5-10 units to 30 or more. This dramatic boost in efficiency demonstrates how modern, off-the-shelf automation solutions can enhance productivity while simplifying supply chain management and inventory needs.

Additionally, the move to Mitsubishi Electric’s standardized platform showcased benefits in compatibility and future-proofing. The ability to integrate third-party devices allowed Genesis to retain its legacy PLC systems, reducing transition costs while leveraging existing infrastructure.
