Different applications require different sensors, especially when it comes to items being passed through on a conveyor belt. Irregular objects consisting of different shapes and heights and/or have various openings may not be easily identified with regular sensors, which use LED, infrared and laser lights. Leuze RK46C VarOS retro-reflective sensor also known as the “polybag sensor” is designed to be keen on reliably sensing unique objects on a conveyor belt based on using a light band instead of a single spot detection. With its 25-mm light band, the device can detect objects as small as 5 mm with speeds as fast 2.5 m/s. This is designed to eliminate the need to use multiple sensors to sufficiently identify different items on a single conveyor.
