Suomen Tekojää Oy, a family-owned company based in Parkano, Finland, used PC-based control technology from Beckhoff to control and monitor ice-rink refrigeration systems in the arenas of the Winter Olympic Games in Beijing.

Natural coolants played an essential role in the ice-making process, which was controlled by a CX5130 embedded PC connected to a CP2916 multi-touch control panel. The precise and eco-friendly refrigeration process control was programmed by Suomen Tekojää Oy, which provided comprehensive solutions for refrigeration, air handling, industrial cooling and heat pump systems, using TwinCAT 3 automation software.

TwinCAT HMI enables controlling, monitoring, and logging of all process data and offers customized views. Because TwinCAT HMI is a web-based visualization software, the refrigeration process was monitored and maintained via secure remote connections.
